Season 2017-18 - Semi Finals

Saturday 21st April

Manchester United 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera saw Man United come from behind to defeat Spurs at Wembley to reach the FA Cup Final in May.

It was Spurs, who were playing at their temporary home for the season, who maybe used this to their advantage early on as they took an 11th minute lead when a ball down the wing saw Christian Eriksen run onto it and his cross was turned home by Dele Alli at the far post.

Spurs continued to have the better of the early exchanges and their next chance saw Son’s cross just invade Harry Kane at the far post, before Kane’s lay off to Eriksen saw the latter’s scuffed effort drift just wide of the far post.

However United hit back and levelled midway through the first half when after Paul Pogba had pinched the ball off Moussa Dembele on the right wing, his ball into the box saw Sanchez send a header into the corner of the net.

Spurs so nearly retook the lead when Eric Dier saw a long range effort deflect onto the post, but it meant the sides went into the break all square.

Half Time Manchester United 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1

The early exchanges of the second half were rather subdued after what had been a high tempo first half, but in the 62nd minute United lit up this semi final tie once again as Herrera ran onto a ball rolling across the penalty area and struck a first time effort into the net, and United now had the lead.

Spurs tried to respond and saw Eriksen strike a long range effort inches wide of the United post, whilst down the other end United were looking to seal the tie and saw Pogba sting the gloves of Hugi Lloris with a decent effort at goal.

However that Herrera goal was enough for Man United to reach their record equalling 20th FA Cup Final in May, whilst for Spurs it was more semi-final heart ache at Wembley.

Sunday 22nd April

Chelsea 2 Southampton 0

Second half goals from Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata saw Chelsea into the FA Cup Final after they defeated Southampton on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Wembley.

Chelsea went close early on when after The Saints had lost the ball, Eden Hazard drove forward and laid the ball to Willian who cut back and struck a brilliant effort off the crossbar.

Chelsea again went close when a Cesc Fabregas ball into the box found Giroud who managed to get the ball under control but under pressure from a defender scoop the ball wide of the target.

However this was about it as chances went and the game was goalless as the teams went into the break.

Half Time Chelsea 0 Southampton 0

However in the opening minute of the second half Chelsea struck as Hazard set up Giroud who brilliantly beat two defenders before flicking the ball home and give the Blues the lead in this one.

Southampton didn’t lie down and tried to force a leveller and so nearly did when Nathan Redmond’s effort looked goalbound until the intervention of keeper Willy Caballero, and from the corner Charlie Austin looked to have forced the ball in but saw the referee blow for a foul on keeper Caballero, much to the disgust of manager Mark Hughes.

However the Blues sealed their passage into the final when a cross from Azpilicueta found Morata who planted a header into the net, and although Austin then hit the post for Southampton thereafter it was Chelsea who set up a showdown against ex boss Mourinho and his Man United side at Wembley in May’s final.

So it all means its Chelsea Vs Manchester United in the Final at Wembley on Saturday May 19th at 5:15pm and also brings together Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho who have not exactly seen eye to eye this season.  Could be fireworks on and off the pitch perhaps, but looking forward to this one, and it will be my first ever FA Cup Final too so can’t wait to taste the atmosphere in person.

My journey began in the humble surroundings of The Old Spotted Dog in Forest Gate for Hackney Wick vs Long Melford in early August 2017, now it will end at Wembley on May 19th, it’s been a good journey, a journey that will end between two powerhouses of the British game contesting the worlds most famous competition.

Season 2017-18 - Quarter Finals

Saturday 17th March

Manchester United 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 0

Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Nemaja Matic saw The Red Devils reach the Semi Finals of the Emirates FA Cup after they saw off Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford in their Quarter Final tie.

The hosts were looking to bounce back from their disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla in midweek whilst The Seagulls were in a decent run of form and fancied their chances of an upset at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

The first opening saw United Anthony Martial and Juan Mata exchange one two’s on the edge of the box before the latter’s effort was deflected wide of the target, and from the resultant corner from Mata, the ball eventually fell to Chris Smalling, and the defender fired an effort off the outside of the visitors post.

The visitors then went close for the first time when a corner found Lewis Dunk who lost his marker to power a header at goal, only to see Sergio Romero equal to it and palm away superbly to keep the scoreline at 0-0.

But with eight minutes of the first half remaining the hosts broke the deadlock, when a superb ball in by Matic found Lukaku, and from point blank range sent a powerful header into the back of the net and the home side had a slender lead at the break.

Half Time Manchester United 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 0

The visitors came out with the bit between their teeth in the second half and created the half’s first chance when a ball laid across to Pascal Gross on the edge of the box saw him hit across an effort which ended up going inches wide of the post, and then the Seagulls went close again when a poor header out was controlled by Jurgen Locadia before he sent a decent effort at goal which Romero saved well.

Brighton came again and this time a cross by Solly March found Locadia at the back post, however the latters header went just over the top of the bar, and United could breathe a sigh of relief again.

The home fans were getting ever more frustrated with their teams performance as it looked like the visitors could quite easily find an equaliser and force extra time, however with six and a half minutes remaining Ashley Young sent in a free-kick towards the back post and saw Matic send a downward header into the far corner and seal the win for the home side.

It was tough on Brighton who really took the game to United in the second period, however the hosts got the job done in the end and they are the ones who go through to the final four of this seasons competition.

Right let’s see how the other three Quarter Finals panned out:-

Saturday 17th March

Swansea City 0 Tottenham Hotspur 3

Christian Eriksen scored twice as Tottenham reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup for a second successive season with a comfortable win at Liberty Stadium. Fabulous first-half goals from Eriksen and Erik Lamela set Spurs on their way as they chase a ninth FA Cup win. Eriksen's second made the result safe just past the hour mark. Tottenham might even have had the game sewn up by half-time, but Son Heung-min's effort was ruled out for offside after consultation with the video assistant referee (VAR). Spurs are seeking a first trophy since they won the 2008 League Cup.

Sunday 18th March

Wigan Athletic 0 Southampton 2

Mark Hughes called Southampton's win over Wigan "a statement of intent" as they reached the FA Cup semi-finals in his first game in charge. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fired in from a second-half corner, shortly after Christian Walton had saved his header.  Wigan's keeper then made an outstanding save from Manolo Gabbiadini's penalty after Dan Burn had brought down the striker. Cedric Soares slotted past Walton to confirm the win in stoppage time. It was a good start for Hughes, who replaced Mauricio Pellegrino as Southampton boss this week after he was sacked with the club one point above the Premier League relegation zone.  He said his side "stood up to Wigan" after the League One promotion contenders created a number of chances throughout the game. Shortly before Cedric's goal - like Hojbjerg's, his first for the club - Paul Cook's side almost grabbed an equaliser through Noel Hunt, whose sidefoot volley was headed over the bar by Southampton defender Jack Stephens. Wigan could have scored in the first half too as Gary Roberts, Will Grigg and Cheyenne Dunkley all came close. Roberts' effort looped over the bar after Dunkley almost poked home Burn's deflected strike in an exciting half full of chances.  Southampton had the upper hand after the break, though, as they booked a place in the last four for the first time since 2003.

Leicester City 1 Chelsea 2 (aet)

Pedro's extra-time winner gave Chelsea victory at Leicester City to set up an FA Cup semi-final date with Southampton at Wembley.  Antonio Conte's side dug deep after the midweek Champions League defeat in Barcelona to keep their hopes of silverware alive as they survived an attacking assault from the Foxes. Alvaro Morata took Willian's pass in his stride to beat Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel in composed fashion to give Chelsea the advantage just before half-time. But Jamie Vardy made amends for a poor headed miss when he pounced in a goalmouth scramble for a 76th-minute equaliser. The decisive moment came just before the interval in extra time when Chelsea substitute Pedro beat the onrushing Schmeichel to N'Golo Kante's cross and headed in the winner.

So all that meant there were just four left in the FA Cup for this season, and here is the semi final lineup:-

Saturday 21st April

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur (5:15pm, at Wembley Stadium)

Sunday 22nd April

Chelsea vs Southampton (3pm, at Wembley Stadium)

My featured tie of the round is the mouth-watering clash between Manchester United and Spurs in Saturday evening’s tie.   However I will bring reports on both ties as I may well attend both semi finals myself, so watch this space.  Spurs obviously are playing at their ‘home’ stadium in this one and did beat the Red Devils quite comfortably in the league match they played there, so will that count for anything?  In the other tie you would expect Chelsea to win through however you just never know what can happen in the cup, especially a semi final, however Chelsea are well experienced in cup semis at Wembley, were as The Saints haven’t been in the semi finals of the Cup since 2003, however they did play in the League Cup final last season, so have recent experience.  Promises to be a good weekend of FA Cup Semi Final action.

Season 2017-18 - Fifth Round Proper

Saturday 17th February
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 Coventry City 1
The Sky Blues run in this season's competition finally came to an end after they were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex.

Coventry's run had seen them see off Maidenhead United, Boreham Wood and Stoke City at the Ricoh Arena, before they knocked out Milton Keynes Dons at Stadium MK to reach this stage of the competition.

They were up against a team in form in the shape of Brighton though who themselves had knocked out bitter rivals Crystal Palace at home before dumping Middlesbrough out at the Riverside in the last round, and the hosts although massive favourites for this tie, would of still been wary of the Sky Blues who had nothing to lose coming into this one.

The Seagulls imposed themselves on their League Two opponents early on and almost took a fifth minute lead when Markus Suttner delivered a corner into the box and saw Uwe Huenemeier head the ball down for Jurgen Locadia who saw his effort smack against the crossbar.

However the visitors then responded and after Dale Stephens had headed over, Johnson Clark-Harris headed a cross against the hosts bar.  But in the 15th minute the hosts grabbed the lead when Locadia netted from close range, converting Anthony Knockhaerts low cross, and the Premier League side had the early goal they needed to settle any nerves.

Two minutes later Solly March weaved his way into the visitors box but failed to get a shot away, and then just past the half hour mark another good delivery into the Sky Blues area by Suttner was met by Locadia, however the effort failed to find the target.

But in the 34th minute the Seagulls doubled their lead when the brilliant Suttner delivered a set-piece into the box and Brighton centre half Connor Goldson rose highest to nod home and see the hosts grab more breathing space between themselves and the visitors.

Coventry knew that they needed the next goal if they were going to get anything from this one, and seven minutes before the break Josh Barrett struck a half-volley just wide of the hosts goal, before down the other end Locadia fired an effort straight at Lee Burge.

Knockhaert then fired over for the hosts a minute later after Dale Stephens had lofted a pass to the far post, and then a  minute before the break Grimmer headed wide for the visitors, and it meant the hosts reached the break with a two goal lead.

Half Time Brighton & Hove Albion 2 Coventry City 0

The hosts changed keepers at half time, with Tim Krul making way for Niki Maenpaa, and the sub keepers first action came just before the hour mark when he claimed a catch from a Coventry free kick as the visitors looked to grab a lifeline in this contest.  Moments before that McNulty had fired a first time effort over the Seagulls goal.

But any thoughts of a comeback were extinguished just past the hour mark when the hosts made it three as skipper Bruno produced a cross for Leonardo Ulloa to glance a header into the top corner, and pretty much seal this cup tie with just under half an hour to play.

This pleased the majority of the 26,966 in attendance with the 4,335 from Coventry not having much to cheer so far in this tie, although that nearly changed when Clarke-Harris found the woodwork again, and then they almost saw their side fall further behind when March fired a ball to the back post and Goldson headed an effort over the bar.

With thirteen minutes left though the Sky Blues gave themselves a glimmer of hope when they managed to find a goal to reduce the deficit as Clarke-Harris fired home from inside the box, but it was only a glimmer, however the only notible moments in the remainder of the contest saw Sam Baldock rattle the visitors woodwork in stoppage time, whilst a Clarke-Harris effort down the other end deflected off a defender but into the arms of keeper Maenpaa.

So it's the Premier League side who progress through to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 17th March in the Quarter Finals.  Congratulations to the Sky Blues as well for making it to the Last 16 of the competition too.

Right lets see what happened in the remainder of the round, with a look at the results from the Fifth Round Proper:-
Friday 16th February
Leicester City 1 Sheffield United 0
Chelsea 4 Hull City 0

Saturday 17th February
Sheffield Wednesday 0 Swansea City 0
West Bromwich Albion 1 Southampton 2
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 Coventry City 1
Huddersfield Town 0 Manchester United 2

Sunday 18th February
Rochdale 2 Tottenham Hotspur 2

Monday 19th February
Wigan Athletic 1 Manchester City 0

Replays
Tuesday 27th February
Swansea City 2 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Wednesday 28th February
Tottenham Hotspur 6 Rochdale 1

No doubt about what the shock of the round was, as League One Wigan Athletic dumped Manchester City out of the competition in the Monday night game at the DW Stadium.  In a re-run of the 2013 final, Will Grigg netted with thirteen minutes remaining to send the underdogs into the Quarter Finals.  Rochdale of League One took Premier League Spurs to a replay, with the North London side netting six at Wembley in the replay to progress, whilst the only other tie that needed a replay was the Sheffield Wednesday against Swansea City contest, which the Premier League side won after a goalless draw in the original tie at Hillsborough.  And with Leicester, Chelsea, Southampton, Brighton and Man United also progressing it means seven of the eight sides in the Quarter Finals are Premier League sides.

Here is the Quarter Final matchups:-
Saturday 17th March
Swansea City vs Tottenham Hotspur (12:15pm)
Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion (7:45pm)

Sunday 18th March
Wigan Athletic vs Southampton (1:30pm)
Leicester City vs Chelsea (4:30pm)

Four decent Quarter Finals to look forward to then, and my featured tie comes from the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford, Manchester, as Manchester United host Brighton & Hove Albion.  United are favourites of course but The Seagulls are on a good run of form and will go to the North West full of confidence.

Season 2017-18 - Fourth Round Proper

Saturday 27th January
Milton Keynes Dons 0 Coventry City 1
Maxime Biamou struck in the 62nd minute to fire Coventry City into Round Five of the Emirates FA Cup at the expense of Milton Keynes Dons at Stadium MK.

The visitors had disposed of Premier League Stoke City in the previous round, whilst hosts MK had also caused a shock in the previous round by knocking out Championship Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, so both had recorded ‘Cupsets’ in the previous round.

The Sky Blues are going well in the league and sit just inside the playoffs in League Two, however it’s a different story for the hosts who are struggling in League One and saw manager Robbie Neilson lose his job after defeat at Northampton Town, but had appointed a new management team, with Dan Micciche installed as new boss along with Keith Millen as his assistant and Dean Lewington as player coach.

No doubt the club were hopeful the change would have a positive impact on this cup tie and also the league form going forward and early on it was the Dons who were on the front foot and the first chance of the game came after ten minutes when Marcus Tavernier fired a shot from range and saw it deflect wide.

The Sky Blues themselves tried to get themselves into the contest and in the 18th minute saw a corner drilled in which was won by McDonald, but saw his header saved by keeper Nicholls, and then five minutes later MK went back on the attack and after Sow had seen another effort blocked, a ball into the box was met by Algard, however McDonald got his body in the way before the follow up from Tavernier went well over.

However a minute later the Sky Blues almost took the lead when McNulty played a one two with Doyle, with his touch finding Biamou, and the latter’s effort was brilliantly saved by Nicholls.  Bayliss then fired an effort wide of the MK goal before a Coventry corner just before the half hour mark saw a Barrett effort blocked.

With five minutes of the half remaining Barrett dragged an effort wide for the visitors before MK then had a period of pressure on the Sky Blues goal, however they could not test keeper Burge apart from a punch clear from one cross, before a minute before the break both sides had chances, firstly when McNulty forced hosts keeper Nicholls into a decent stop, before MK broke and saw Tavernier burst through but see keeper Burge come and claim the ball at the feet of the attacker.

It meant the half ended goalless with both sides having seen openings but fail to take them, and it meant all to play for in the second half.

Half Time Milton Keynes Dons 0 Coventry City 0

Three minutes into the half Gilbey had a couple of efforts at the Coventry goal, the first one brought a shout for handball, before the second went wide, before five minutes into the half the visitors went so close to taking the lead when a long ball from McDonald found McNulty, who cut inside and struck an effort inches wide of the far post.  It drew gasps of breath amongst the fans around me, we all thought it was in!!

Just past the hour mark it was MK who were holding their heads as Williams brilliantly got to a ball that looked to be going out of play, and he fired a wicked ball right across the six yard box which Agard looked sure to convert but the ball got stuck underneath his feet and the chance was gone.

And in this game of fine margins instead of going a goal up, MK soon found themselves a goal behind as a minute later the Sky Blues broke the deadlock, when after superb work from Bayliss on the right, he slid in McNulty and his ball towards goal saw Baimou get to it and hit an effort through Nicholls legs and saw the ball squeeze over the line before the defender on the line could clear, and it sent the 8,000 Sky Blues fans behind that goal crazy.  Cue pitch invasion and the like but the joy was there for all to see, and they now had a lead to hold onto.

However the visitors actually looked to end this tie and in the 67th minute went close when Bayliss again did well down the right, found McNulty and his ball across was met by Kelly but it went wide, and then two minutes later saw a Shipley corner headed over by Willis in the 69th minute, before a Shipley free kick was saved by Nicholls.

With ten minutes remaining and with MK desperately looking for an equaliser, Tavernier saw his deflected effort turned over by Burge, but sadly for the hosts the corner came to nothing.

With a bumper crowd of 14,925 inside Stadium MK (admittedly swelled by the huge Sky Blues following) the hosts so desperately wanted them to have something to cheer about and they saw Wootton head wide from a corner before another penalty shout from MK after what they deemed a foul on Ugbo fell on deaf ears.

Six minutes of stoppage time was then announced and the Sky Blues so nearly sealed the win when they broke after Stevenson won the ball, the former then played a one two with McNulty, but then saw his one on one effort saved by Nicholls.

It meant a nervy final few minutes for the Sky Blues but they held firm and knocked out another higher league opponent for the second round in succession to take their place in the Last 16 of the competition.  The dream continues.

Full Time Milton Keynes Dons 0 Coventry City 1

Here are some photos from the day:-

So it's the Sky Blues who are through to Round Five of the FA Cup, and the second round running they have knocked out higher league opposition.  City's reward is a trip to the south coast and the Amex Stadium to take on Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion.  This will arguably be their toughest test so far but they can go their with hope that they can pull off another upset and make the Quarter Finals of the famous old trophy.

It was a great 24 hours in general for me, I chose to stay at the Doubletree Hilton that is built into Stadium MK and it was a wonderful experience to walk out of your room to overlook the pitch, and also eat breakfast in the pitchside restaurant too.  A cracking facility it sure was and MK should be proud of what they have their.  Fantastic experience ended with a tough battle out on the pitch in front of a rawcous crowd (mainly the Sky Blues it has to be said) which added to the experience as a whole.

So that was my featured game, however their was a bonus game in this round too as I chose to visit Wembley for a replay between Premier League Spurs and League Two Newport County.  The sides had played out a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade in the original tie, with Harry Kane grabbing a late equaliser to prevent Spurs from a highly embarrassing result and no doubt shock of the round too.

It did mean that Newport would get a trip to Wembley, and backed by over 7,000 visiting fans they made their way to London for this one, and here is how it panned out:-

Wednesday 7th February
Tottenham Hotspur 2 Newport County 0
Two first half goals were enough for Tottenham Hotspur to see off a plucky Newport County side at Wembley and progress into the Last 16 of the Emirates FA Cup.

The sides had met twelve days ago in Wales and the Premier League side had needed a late Harry Kane equaliser to rescue them from a huge upset after the hosts had taken the lead in the first half at Rodney Parade.

However the hosts, three leagues above their opponents, were expected to finish the job here.  But backed by a sizable away support, Newport would no doubt enjoy their Wembley experience whatever the outcome in this one.

Spurs had the first shot on goal, when Heung-Min Son whistled a shot over from an acute angle, as they looked for that early goal to settle their nerves.  Newport though looked far from overawed by the occasion though and so nearly took an 11th minute lead when a pin point cross found Padraig Amond unmarked in the area, but he could only direct his header over when he should of at least tested Michel Vorn in the Spurs net.

And after twenty or so minutes Newport were more than holding their own in this one, and you could feel the home crowd becoming edgy already as their side had started with a degree of nervousness in this one.
In the 22nd minute the hosts did go close when a ball to the far side of the box saw full back Danny Rose charge in to fire an effort into the side netting, but three minutes later the home side could relax a little when they did find the breakthrough when Moussa Sissoko crossed into the danger zone and the unfortunate Dan Butler turned the ball into his own net, and Spurs had the lead.

This seemed to release a pressure valve in the hosts as they began to find their feet at long last and on the half hour visitors keeper Joe Day had to make decent saves from Erik Lamela and then Son in a matter of moments before Lamela then fired a loose ball well over the bar.

Two minutes later more good Spurs build up play ended with Lamela firing wide of the Newport goal, and you felt a second Spurs goal wasn’t far away.

And just a minute later, in the 34th minute, they found that second goal as good play from Son saw him play in Lamela, and the Spurs attacker duly slotted expertly past Day and into the far corner and Spurs now had a two goal cushion and were looking very menacing now.

With seven minutes of the half remaining Spurs fizzed a ball into the near post, but Day got down well to save that, before the visitors managed to break down the left a few minutes later, and almost converted the cross however the covering defender managed to just about thwart any danger to the hosts goal.

Remember Victor Wanyama and his goal against Liverpool?  Well he received the ball about twenty five yards or so, and with the crowd urging him to shoot, he obliged although this effort was sliced miles wide of the target!!!

It was the final act of the half, a half were Spurs had started slowly, however after they took the lead looked far more comfortable.  Newport were far from disgracing themselves though but they had a mountain to climb in this one.

Half Time Tottenham Hotspur 2 Newport County 0

It was a fairly quiet opening to the second period, with the first effort at goal a Wanyama effort for the hosts, although his header was straight at Day, and then two minutes later Spurs almost netted a third as a cross was almost turned in by a defender, but this time they managed to advert any danger, just.

Then just past the hour mark great skill from Lamela saw him twist and turn his marker inside the box before he almost teed up Fernando Llorente, but the striker could not stretch far enough to divert the cross home.

You had to give Newport their due though as they continued to battle well and give it a go, however Spurs always looked the likelier to add further goals, and in the 65th minute saw Lamela thwarted by a decent stop from Day, before another terrific move from the hosts involving the recently arriving substitute Christian Eriksen and Rose ended with the former putting Rose’s cross wide of the target.

In the 72nd minute Newport went on the attack and it needed a decent punch out from Vorm to clear the danger and from this Spurs counter attacked but messed up the final ball and the flag had gone up for offside in any case.

And four minutes later it should have been three for the hosts when a delightful ball into the area found Llorente all alone, however he could only head wide of the far post, and then two minutes later Llorente was guilty of another miss when another great cross found him unmarked however he could only volley wide the other post.

Spurs had also now brought on Dele Alli and in the 83rd minute saw a brilliant ball release him in on goal, however his effort struck the bar and went over, before he saw another effort well saved by Day down at his near post four minutes later.

Three minutes of stoppage time were then announced and in the first of these another second half substitute Kyle Walker-Peters fizzed a decent effort wide, whilst deep into stoppage time Newport so nearly grabbed a goal when they found themselves in on goal however Vorm made a terrific save to deny them, and preserve his clean sheet in the process.

In was the last act in this one, and Spurs had netted a fairly routine victory in the end, although take nothing away from the visitors who gave their all and were rightly clapped by their fans as well as the home ones after the final whistle.  However it is Spurs who travel to face Rochdale in the Last 16 of the competition.

Here are some photos of the evening:-

So Spurs are through to face Rochdale as I said, that will be another tough one on what is not going to be the best playing surface by all accounts, however it's the same for both sides so I say just get on with it, it's the magic of the cup after all!!!

Here are the fixtures for the Fifth Round Proper:-

Chelsea VS Hull City

Saturday 17th February
Sheffield Wednesday VS Swansea City
West Bromwich Albion VS Southampton

Sunday 18th February
Rochdale VS Tottenham Hotspur

Monday 19th February
Wigan Athletic VS Manchester City

Some notable ties in this round see's former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal return to Hillsbrough with his current side Swansea City in what promises to be a tough game for the Premier League outfit, whilst Spurs travel to Spotlands to take on Rochdale and Manchester City's stars visit West Ham conquerors Wigan on Monday night.

My featured game of the round though comes from the Amex, where Premier League Brighton host League Two Coventry.  The hosts have dispatched local rivals Crystal Palace and then sneaked past Middlesbrough to reach this stage, whilst the Sky Blues have beaten Vanarama National sides Maidenhead United and Boreham Wood before they stunned Premier League Stoke City in Round Three and then knocked out League One MK Dons in the last round to take their place here.  All the pressure is on the hosts in this one and I would not be surprised if Coventry got something from this one, should be a fascinating cup tie!!!

So make sure you read my next blog on Round Five where I'll have a report from the Amex as well as what happened in their other seven ties in Round Five.
